Introductions, SKOOKUM

This is my girl, SKOOKUM.

She's a CT 38 Fast Cruiser.  The CT stands for Ta Chiao, which is the name of the Taiwanese shipyard that manufactured her back in 1985. Her length on deck is 38' and her length at the water line is 30' 10".  Based on her length at the water line and the fact that she is a displacement hull, her maximum speed through the water is 7.5 kt (or ~8.6 mph).  Her depth in the water (i.e., her "draft") is 6'7".  (Interesting fact, 6'7" is also how tall my brother is, but there is of course no relevance to this correlation.)

She displaces 16,775 lbs and was designed for fast blue water speeds and the demanding conditions of the Tasman Sea by they New Zealander naval architect, Alan Warwick.  Part of Mr. Warwick's design was to place half of the weight below the water line (a very good thing in rough conditions and for novice sailors like me).  At some point, I hope to take advantage of her ocean going pedigree, but for now I just need to get better at pushing her limits within the confines of the Puget Sound.

Until I purchased her last year, she had been with only one family.  That said, when I got her, this girl had definitely fallen on hard and lonely times as her previous owners' maintenance regime had tapered off to nil due to time constraints.  So, my goal is to now get her polished, cleaned, updated, and ship-shape (as needed).  Because, some day I would like to see what it's like to live aboard and/or go somewhere far away.  I don't know where I would go or when I would like to live aboard, but for now, I work and sail whenever there's time.
